How I stopped feeling like a fraud

Sharron Keogh   January 30, 2023   min read

If I am being completely open, honest and authentic I have been feeling like a fraud for months, maybe even a year.

Not only did it mean that I was diminishing myself as a person making me feel smaller and smaller but, I didn’t realise how much it was stopping me from sharing and showing up in my business and life last year.

As someone who is passionate about their health and wellness, I always want to be the best and healthiest version of myself.  Whilst it may have appeared on the outside to be a major priority or value of mine on the inside I felt like a fraud living a lie.

How did I get here?

Everyone experienced some challenges from the fallout of 2020 mine left me overweight.  While some of it relates to multiple surgeries from 2 miscarriages in 2019 and 2020 and the emotional baggage that left me with, the rest had come down to me overeating.

Even if I was eating relatively well, I have realised that I have been eating too much each meal and eating too much in between meals.  I know eating this way doesn’t allow my digestive system to rest and that as you age you don’t need as many calories and heck I wasn’t even exercising at times or exercising like I used to which, would then have me feel crap about myself and eat even more.

Yep emotional eating, boredom eating, addicted to certain foods that you can’t stop yourself from eating and mindless eating.  You name it, I was doing it!

Sound familiar?

So, where to from here?

It was so hard to admit this publicly for fear of judgment, unsolicited advice this may create and for being so raw and vulnerable.  But in sharing with some friends recently I was reminded that I was not alone and what I thought of myself and what others did was two different things.

In fact, in sharing my experiences and allowing people in to go along this journey with me could really make a difference to many people.

One thing I know that keeps me most accountable to myself is when I am accountable to others.  It could be because I don’t want to look bad, wrong, not good enough or the reverse of how amazing I am compared to others for achieving incredible feats.

Being accountable to a buddy, coach or even those who follow me could make the difference in me regaining my health and weight goals.  So here I am sharing raw and openly that surprisingly I am not perfect and sometimes when life throws you lemons, you don’t always make lemonade in time before they go rotten.

What am I doing about it?

I am pleased to say this year has felt like a shift in energy for me and here is some of the things that have helped me:

1. Identify

I have been clear and identified where I have been out of alignment in life and business.  This may be confronting to see it black and white on paper but you can’t transform anything unless you are clear on where you are now and where you want to go.

2. Support

Instead of trying to do it alone I have spoken up and gained support where I needed.  Seeking assistance is so important as it helps you get out of your head (which may not be a pretty sight at times) and gain the perspective of others.

A problem shared, is a problem halved after all.  Mind you it does need to be shared with the right type of person so do be selective.  More on that another time!

3. Action

Its great to know what the issues are but now I have taken massive action in several areas of my life and business.  Will it all work out?  Maybe, maybe not.  I won’t know unless I do something and in the process of taking different actions with a new view of the situation that’s where the magic is and what will open up is the next inspired step to take.

What YOU can do!

Just remember that feeling like a fraud is not uncommon, and many of us struggle with self-doubt and insecurity. However, both you and I CAN overcome these feelings by taking steps towards self-improvement and seeking support from others. Just take it one step at a time and try the things I mentioned above.

And if you want to take this journey together with me, just reach out! I'd love to hear from you!
